Bring On 2011!!

Personally 2010 hasn't been a great year for me and I can't wait to see the back of it. It wasn't actually a bad year either...it was just a bit 'blah'...if you know what I mean? It was really uneventful and I didn't accomplish what I had planned so I'm looking forward to a new year and a new start and I do have a feeling though that 2011 is going to be a lot better! :)

Last year I had a long list of resolutions and goals (which I do every year). 2010 has been my worst year for sticking to them, I done nothing! So this year I've decided I'm not making any resolutions. I will make small goals which I would like to work towards achieving. This is more likely to be successful for me! What about you? What are your resolutions and goals?

I hope you all have a wonderful New Year. Where ever you are keep safe & warm and remember - Start to start your year the way you want it to go on!!

And lastly, to everyone who has subscribed, commented and read this blog - It means a lot and I'll see you all in 2011!!

Katy Perry with no make up!!

(Source: www.hollywoodlife.com)

I have to say I was shocked and relieved when I saw this picture on twitter. It turns out that the gorgeous Katy Perry is human after all! I don't really think it looks like her though!

The usually Flawless Katy Perry

I think it's safe to say that hubby Russell Brand will be in the dog house after posting this picture of Make up free Katy on twitter earlier on. After all no woman likes to be pictured au naturale, especially not for the whole world to see. He did take it down just as quickly as he put it up. Still it was long enough for it to do it's rounds!

Gapped Teeth - Yes or no?!

Gap tooth beauties...

That's right 2010 became the year that having a gap between your two front teeth - or a diastema, which is the proper term, became in vogue, literally - Check it out here. Meaning that for the first time in my life I was ahead of a trend :) Should note that mine is natural and I wasn't one of the crazy few who actually had a gap made due to this trend!

I've been very self-conscious of the gap between my teeth from a very young age...being nicknamed Madonna didn't help matters. In fact, I'm still very much aware of my gap now and very rarely will I show my teeth in photos and so ironically this year I went to my dentist about having my gap closed. I was told that I had 2 options; I could have the gap filled or I could have veneers fitted although I was advised against the later as they're not recommended for healthy teeth. So for £100 a flaw (one of many) which I'm insecure about could be corrected. What was interesting though was that when I enquired about teeth whitening I was told I didn't need it - I do! It made me wonder then why he thought closing the gap seemed necessary? Perhaps I read too much into it, but it didn't help matters lol.

My Gap...

It's been 6 months since I went to see about having it closed and I still haven't taken the plunge. To be honest, as much as I hate I'm scared to lose it. I worry that I'll hate the look of my teeth when it's done; that they will look stupid; and I'm worried about losing something that makes me uniquely me. I have decided though that 2011 will be the year I make a decision once and for all and when I've made my decision that will be the end of it!

So what do you guys think of the gap tooth trend? and most importantly, what would you do if you had one? Embrace it or get rid?

Finally got my Soap & Glory tote!

Last week I wrote a post about the Soap & Glory tote that boots had reduced from £60 to £25, I finally got my hands on mine yesterday...

...and I love it!!

I had it delivered to my local boots store, which was a big mistake as I didn't realise it would be so big. Trying to navigate my way through (mostly rude) shoppers with a huge box and bags of Christmas shopping was actually a challenge! I did manage to get it home in one piece though :) (phew!)

I really can't wait to try 'Scrub Your Nose In It' as I've never used it before and I have quite large pores on my face - Nothing seems to help the pores on my nose at all! So I'm hoping this will help.

One thing I would definitely recommend from Soap & Glory though is the Giant Super Sudsy Shower Puff!

I can't really explain why I love the Soap & Glory ones, apart from the fact they're huge! I just do! They're the only shower puffs I now use. Now I have a nice pink one to go with the others (which are white).

I hope you all have a lovely Christmas! Xx

Serious Style Envy!

(Source: Google)

Last week I was reading Glamour, can't for the life of me remember if it was a recent issue or not, and I noticed this picture of Rachel Bilson. I think she looks fabulous here. I love her hair, make-up, the shoes, the top and yes...even the leather shorts!

I'm not usually a fan of leather shorts but I love how this delicate Vanessa Bruno top makes the look more feminine, balancing the 'edgy' look of the shorts and the open-toe Maison Margiela heels resulting in a really cute look that is far more wearable.

I'm now developing fascination about leather shorts. I would never wear them, I couldn't pull them off in million years, but I'm curious how other people wear theirs. So I'm off to look for fashion blogs! :)

One Of My Favourite Things About Christmas

(Pinched from youtube)

I absolutely love this song and every December I look forward to hearing it for the millionth time! I honestly don't think I'll ever tire of hearing it at Christmas, although my Dad assures me that I eventually will. I don't think there's another Christmas song that comes close. Well Otis Redding's cover of White Christmas Is pretty special (and I am biased when it comes to Otis Redding) but it's never played!!

Hope everyone is getting into the Christmas Spirit!! xx

I have no self-control!

Last night while cleaning out my cupboard, I stumbled across an unopened bottle of St Moriz Instant Self Tanning Mist. I bought this months ago and must have put it in the cupboard and forgot all about it. So out of sheer boredom I decided to apply it to see what it was like. I've used St Moriz mousse before and I do like it, I just have a problem with the consistency of it. I find that with each pump 75% of the formula will come out like mousse and the other 25% will be runny. So if you're anything like me, you just get into a mess! That's what puts me off the mousse.

Anyway, If you read my post on things I'm loving right now, you would have noticed that number 1 on my list was 'embracing my paleness', which has obviously went right out the window (naughty me!). I did try and justify it by saying that it was for fair to medium skintones - a lot lighter than I usually use, but lets face it I'm a lot darker than I naturally am and I'm already thinking about the next application...I'm hooked!

Personally, I think this may be my new favourite fake tan. The application was flawless and I have no patches, even my hands are fine!!

Have you tried St Moriz mousse or mist? Which do you prefer?

Long hair...oh how I miss you!!

It's been just over 3 months since I decided to have all my hair chopped off to achieve a hairstyle similar to Frankie Sandford (the Saturdays), and right now I'm really regretting it. At the time I did love it but deep down I always knew that I would probably regret doing it as growing it was going to be a long process and that it would be even harder since my hair is considerably shorter at one side! Usually my hair grows quite quickly and anytime I've had a bob I've been able to grow it out within about 6 months but just now my hair doesn't seem to be growing much at all and I have serious hair envy!!

Everytime I see someone with long hair I pine for my old hair! ha ha. Most people told me at the time not to do it but I thought my long hair was boring and I really wanted a change but I'm really bored with short hair, there's not really much you can do with. With long hair you have the option to curl, straighten, wave, wear it up, wear it down and if you're Cheryl Cole you can wear it like a bow if you desire! (Wasn't really a fan of that myself though)

At the moment I'm seriously considering hair extensions but I don't really know much about them. I had a quick look into them but there seems so many different ones to choose from and I don't know what would be best for my hair, or if my hair is even long enough to get them!
So as 2010 is coming to an end I can say I've learned one thing about myself - I do actually have my limits! I can 100% say that my hair will never be cut above my shoulders again. I tried it and I don't like it so by doing it I've learned something, and you know what they say; you'll never know if you like something till you've tried it.

Right now I'm loving...

Embracing my natural skin tone! - This is a big change for me, I hate the natural colour of my skin. I'm very, very pale and for the last 6 years I've been somewhat tanorexic (although I have only used a sunbed twice! Donatella Versace has put me off 'natural' tanning) and applying fake tan has been compulsory! However, I'm currently having problems with my skin and fake tan seems to be exacerbating it so as it's winter and I can cover up more, it seemed like the perfect time to wean myself off fake tan. Not sure how long this will last though, it's been quite a struggle so far!

Lipstick - I've not really been a fan of lipstick. To be honest...it scares me! I'm always worried that I'll think that a colour will look good when really people will be thinking 'What the hell is she wearing?' So I usually avoid it or I stick to colours that are the same as my natural lip colour - my perfect match is ELF mineral lipstick in 'nicely nude'. So to start off I've purchased 2 lipsticks from the Maybelline colorsensational range; the colours are 'Fatal red' and 'Delicate pearl' and I purchased 2 from the Rimmel Lasting Finish range in the colours 'Sweetie' and 'Asia'. I will do a review of these. If anyone has any recommendations, please let me know!

Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid Foundation - I've tried this twice before and wasn't impressed at all. It was one of those products that didn't live up to the expectations I had about it and I couldn't make it work at all so I gave it to my Mum, who happens to love it! She recently bought a bottle that was too light for her so she gave it to me. Due to embracing my paleness the only foundations I had that matched my skin were this and Chanel Vitalumiere - which I do love but the coverage is light and the state my skin is in at the moment that's a no-go! So I had to opt for maybelline dream satin and I have to say I'm quite impressed. It doesn't give me 'flawless' skin but the coverage is quite good, my skin looks smoother and it gives it a nice glow.

Online shopping - I actually always love online shopping but from November until January this becomes my only shopping outlet as I refuse to step foot in shops. People seem to go into psycho mode at this time of the year and I find going shopping really stressful; all manners seem to go out the window; people race you to get things and it's just really stressful and chaotic. I really don't get it. It seems to be like a competition to buy anything and people buy like it's going out of fashion.

Snow!!! - Today is the first day we've had snow so that explains why I'm loving it. By tomorrow I'll hate it but for today I'm definitely loving it! It's really starting to feel like Christmas even though it's still almost 4 weeks away! I've actually been wanting to put my Christmas tree up but I haven't...I'm not that mad! Honestly! :D

Twitter - I've had twitter for a while now but I've only recently kind of figured out how to use it...I'm still a complete novice! I love reading other people's tweets though, some of them are really funny. It's also really nice to get to know other bloggers better, although there are some bloggers I follow on twitter but can't find their blogs :( I'm starting to see why it can be addictive though! If you would like to follow me on twitter, you can here.

Update and get 10% off at elemis

It's been a while since I last done my last post and I was supposed to record photo evidence of the results of Rimmel's lash accelerator mascara, unfortunately my camera broke and had to be sent away to be repaired (which is bloody typical!) and the camera on my phone is completely useless, anyone else think the quality of camera phones is getting worse?, so to cut a long story short I wasn't able to take pictures of the 'growth' at different stages. I have got my camera back today and I will take a picture to compare the difference in lash length from the first day I applied it, which you can see here, and how my lashes look now, which is 6 weeks later.

I absolutely love this mascara but personally I don't think it has made my lashes grow at all, maybe my opinion will change when I compare the pictures. When I've applied the mascara my lashes are lengthened, my theory is that the shape and size of the wand allows the lashes to be pulled from the root which has a kind of straightening effect (you know how your hair seems a bit longer when you straighten it). I have also received compliments on how long my lashes are looked when wearing it but as I said when my lashes are bare I don't notice any increase.

As a mascara I would recommend it 100%, I love that it doesn't clump at all after 2 coats, which is a problem I usually have with mascaras. It's is a little bit wet but not a bad as some i've tried: Maybelline Pulse Perfection for example! so that really doesn't bother.

The only downsides of this mascara is that when I first started using it, I did experience lash loss and it almost made me stop using it as I worried that in my quest for long lashes I would end up with none! But I did try it again and thankfully I haven't had any more lashes fall out. The other downside is that it isn't waterproof, as someone who has a tendency this is an essential requirement when choosing a new mascara!

If you haven't tried this Superdrug still have it on offer for £6.99 - usual price will be £8.99

Until the end of October elemis.com have 2 offers running;

The first is 10% off all elemis products, which you can claim by entering this promotional code: AFF1010

The second is a free Devils Mint Body Scrub (20mls) with no minimum spend - To claim this enter promotional code AFFDEVIL

So thats my update for now, I will hopefully get a picture of my current lash length up tomorrow when I've been reacquainted with my camera!

Have any of you tried Lash accelerator and are there any elemis products you recommend?

The Rimmel 30 day lash challenge!

So last week Rimmel launched their brand new mascara. They describe lash accelerator as 'a breakthrough...mascara that actually helps to promote the natural growth of beautifully long, remarkably strong lashes.' They also go on to say that 'Instantly, your lashes will look up to 80% longer, but then after 30 days of continued use, they'll appear up to 117% longer looking.' The 'breakthrough' is the growth lash complex which the mascara contains and claims to have 3 superior lash enhancing benefits:

FORTIFIES - helps minimise lash loss (if I try to say this it comes out as 'lash losh'!)

NOURISHES - supports lashes to grow strong and long

RENEWS - helps repair and restore lashes

All sounds good to me! :D

The length of my lashes isn't too bad, I would say they're probably average length. So anything that claims to makes them even longer is always going to be worth a go as I think I look like a drag queen with false lashes (no joke!) so they're a no go for me!

Currently there are a few places which have lash accelerator at a reduced price, I bought mine in Tesco for £6.99 and I have seen it in superdrug for the same price. The R.R.P is £8.99 and it comes in 2 colours - Black & brown.

Yesterday was my first day of using the mascara and I thought I would take pictures to document the effects (if any) the mascara has on my lashes over 30 days. The first pic is my natural lashes with nothing on and the next is after one coat of lash accelerator.

As a mascara I really like it. The wand is small which means I can get to the tiny lashes and get right to the lash line comfortably (and without making a mess!). I think being able to get the wand right into the lash line (something I usually struggle to do) had a pulling effect on my lashes making them look slightly longer. Nowhere near up to the 80% claim though. However, I will continue to use the mascara for the 30 days and cross my fingers and toes that it works!

Frankie Sandford hair!

(pic I took with me)

For a while now I've really loved Frankie Sandford's (UK girl band - The Saturdays) hair but to me it's really short! So to actually go and get my hair cut in a similar style was just never going to happen.

What if I looked like a boy?

How long would it take to grow my hair back?

What if the hair stylist didn't know what she was doing?

These were a few of the questions that went through my mind whenever I contemplated having my hair cut. Looking like a boy was definitely my biggest fear as was the fact that I wasn't blessed with Frankie's face!

After seeing Plink278's youtube channel and seeing that she had hacked all her pretty hair off, and it looked even more awesome, I felt braver and decided to just go for it. I booked an appointment for Saturday (yesterday). I chose a well recommended salon - Rainbow Room International. If I was going this short I wasn't letting just anyone loose on my hair!

On the day I expected to feel nervous/sick but I was actually fine, may have been something to do with the fabulous head massage I received before the cutting started. The stylist was more anxious than me which I have to admit made me feel slightly uneasy and all my doubts came back but after the first cut it was too late!

So 2 hours later this was the result...

I'm happy with it, it's a great change and everyone seems to like it, but I do miss having long hair, and it's only been a day! The great thing is now all the bleach and damaged hair from highlights is gone! My hair now feels really healthy. I've not tried to style it own my own yet but I'm hoping it will be easy...fingers (and toes) crossed!
It's definitely the shortest my hair has ever been and the most drastic haircut I've ever had but I've now come to the conclusion that I won't know what I like or what suits me unless I try it. If I don't...it's hair so it will grow back and at the very worst, there's always hair extensions (which I was assured it would still be long enough for clip-ins) :)

I went for Ice cream and left with raspberry (NOTD)

I am seriously lacking with the blog again! I love doing it as well but I just don't seem to have the time. Anyway I went to superdrug last week to buy Berry Ice cream and Mushroom from the new Barry M nail paint collection but the were sold out, so this polish caught my eye, I don't know how long it's been out but I haven't seen this in stock before. I really like the colour and it seems to apply better than any other Barry M nail paint i've bought before. I was surprised though when I saw the colour, to me this isn't what I would describe as a raspberry I think this looks like a classic red which is what I thought it would be. I thought raspberry was more a pink-y colour?

This is what the colour looks like on the Barry M website:

I definitely don't think this looks the same at all, obviously seeing a colour online is not going to be 100% accurate but personally I don't think this is close. I'm glad I bought it in person because I liked the colour and not online where it does look more raspberry like!

Has anyone else bought something which doesn't look anything like it's supposed to?

The Primark experience

So, today when I was out I ended up stranded in Primark looking for shelter from the torrential rain and hailstones (I hate hailstones! Painful things!) and of course I did what all girls know best! Shop!!

It's probably the first time I've been in Primark in about a year. I went through a little faze of going in a LOT! But I kind of got bored with it, I was buying things purely because of how cheap they were and everyone was wearing the same clothes. After today however I feel I may become a regular visitor again.

Here are some of the things I bought:

To be honest clothes from primark aren't the greatest quality but for the price you can't really complain. My pet hate about the shop though is the queues, you always wait for ages to get served and they never have all the tills open, which I don't see the point in!
I did but a few more things, nothing interesting, juts pyjamas and things and there were a few more things I intended to buy but had to try on but the changing rooms were closed so I will need to go back for these.
What I bought in more detail:

I think another Primark may be imminent, I was quite surprised how on trend my local primark was today as usually I have to travel further to get anything half decent so that was a pleasant surprise and I the accessories are brilliant for how cheap they are some of the bangles I bought were only 50p! So expect another Primark post soon....ha!

e.l.f Haul

I've never tried any of the e.l.f products before but I've been reading a lot of good things about the products so I felt I had to try it out. I have to say despite reading good reviews of their products, mainly from their studio line, I was still sceptical about the quality but the products are cheap so there's not really a lot to lose in trying them. So I went on to e.l.f and I ordered a few things. I only purchased 1 thing from the studio line. I was more interested in testing the £1.50 products to see what the quality was like.

So I bought

* Studio Bronzer in Golden

* Mineral Lipstick in Nicely Nude
* Brightening Eyeliner in Ash

* Eyeliner Brush
* Tinted Moisturizer in Honey

* Natural Lash Kit
* Natural Radiance Blusher in Flushed

I'll be honest I didn't like everything I bought, but then you can't expect to like everything I suppose! The products I didn't like are:

- The tinted moisturizer - I absolutely hated this! It made my face look really oily (well oilier than it already is!) and It felt quite sticky too. It has a fragrance to it as well which I think you'll either love or hate. I didn't like the smell either, it reminds me of something but I really can't think what.
- The brightening eyeliner - I bought this in Ash because the Black was sold out, I'm quite boring and usually just stick with Black eyeliner this wasn't far off though nor was it too drastic for me! :) This cost £1.50 so I wasn't expecting it to be good and I didn't like it. I did however like the sharpener that came with it.

Out of everything I liked the Eyeliner Brush the best. I think it works really well for being so cheap. It probably won't last long and I haven't washed it so I don't know how well it will wash but for £1.50 you can't go wrong. Also I think the Blusher is really good for £1.50 too. It's a lovely colour and it applies really well.

The products I really wanted were the studio bronzer and the mineral lipstick. I do really like the bronzer it's highly pigmented. I did try and swatch it but my camera wouldn't pick up the colours properly. I wouldn't wear this bronzer in the day though personally I think it's a going out bronzer. The mineral lipstick as well is nice but for me it's not moisturizing enough. I have really dry lips and find that I have to wear Vaseline with this lipstick.

Lush

Recently everyone seems to be blogging about Lush and being a huge fan of Lush products I was getting a little envious and felt like I was missing out - ha! So last week I went online (there's no lush stores near where I live) and purchased some products which arrived yesterday. Which was really welcoming after being out in the cold and almost falling in the snow/ice/slush for the millionth time! A nice warm bath with a bubble bar was just what I needed!

So here's what I bought:

* Jingle Spells Ballistic

* Ickle Baby Devil Baby Bath Ballistic

* Pop In The Bath Bubble Bar

* Bathos Bubble Bar

* Blue Skies Bubble Bar

* Waving Not Drowning Ballistic

* Think Pink Bath Ballistic

* Dreamtime Bath Melt

* Big Blue Bath Ballistic

* Rockstar Soap

* The Comforter Bubble Bar

I really can't believe that I forgot to order a Supernova Ballistic or a Sex Bomb Ballistic. They're my 2 favourite Lush products!!

As I spent over £30 (eek!) I also received a free £10 gift which contained:

* Angels Delight Soap

* Think Pink Ballistic

* Avobath Ballistic

* Honey Bee Ballistic

* Snowcake Soap

* Porridge Soap

These are smaller sized products than you would usually buy but great for free :D

Out of the wrapping the soaps look like this:

Angels Delight

Snowcake

Porridge Soap

I've never tried the porridge soap before and to be honest I'm a little unsure if I'll like it, it smells a bit creamy? but it feels like it will be quite moisturising which would be good since my skin is a little dry just now. I've never tried Angels Delight or the honey bee ballistic but they smell AMAZING! So I'm quite excited about trying them out, the only thing that concerns me is the glitter on Angels Delight - Will I turn into a glitter ball?

I'd really love to try a face mask from Lush but because I have to order online and can't get to a store I'm unsure what would be a good one to try so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
